Announced at E3 2016, Absolver is a beautiful title that caught the eye of many when it debuted. Coming from the small studio Sloclap, built from ex-Ubisoft employees who worked on many big titles for the company in their Paris branch, the game is an action-RPG centered around a unique style of gameplay. Inspired by the level design and combat of the Dark Souls franchise, the idea was to give players an open world where they could run around and fight whoever they want however they want – even if it may be a little too difficult at first.
In a blog post on their site, Sloclap dropped a new 4 minute trailer for Absolver that outlines the gameplay in question, giving a deeper look at the system and a little more detail on the game in general. Prospects – the name given to the player – choose one of the three main styles of combat – Kahlt, Windfall, or Forsaken – and over the course of their time with the game will customize their chosen style and make it into a unique combat “deck.” The trailer showcases each of these styles in turn, even going so far as to give a glimpse at some of the possible options for customization and how stance, style, and even move set can alter the flow of combat. It is even possible to find mentors in the wild who offer other styles from the main three that will further diversify the way gamers approach the game.
Those interested in diving into the beautiful world of Absolver won’t have to wait long – along with the trailer, Sloclap also gave us a release date in their post. Prospects can begin fighting their way through the plains of Adal as soon as August 29th, unless you sign up for the closed beta and get in a little sooner.
