DayZ has been in its early access form for nearly four years now, with the developers slowly but surely adding new content and tweaks to the game as it inches closer to its full release. While the game’s full release is still a ways off, fans will likely be thrilled to hear that the game is finally set to enter its beta phase in the near future.
Developer Bohemia Interactive has announced that the game will be entering its beta phase with the 0.63 update, though that isn’t the next update that will be coming to the game. 0.62 is the one that will be releasing next, though most of the team is working on the more substantial 0.63 update. A smaller team is currently working on the 0.62 update, which could end up meaning that it will take a little longer before it finally releases.
They also weren’t able to share any news regarding what these updates are actually going to add to the game, though it seems like the 0.62 update will be more of a table-setter for the 0.63 update. Developers regularly do this when a big update is in the pipeline, ensuring that there are as few problems with the bigger update’s launch as possible.
While we don’t have release windows for either of these updates, this is nevertheless big news for fans of the game or even those who have been following it during its early access period. The game is largely responsible for popularizing the early access release method, and has been an immense success since the beginning. It remains to be seen how long the game’s beta period will last for, but judging by the early access period it will likely be around for a while.
DayZ originally launched into early access on PC in December of 2013, with the game selling over 3 million copies since then. The game will also be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, though it’s currently unknown if they’ll launch alongside the PC version or not.
