The UK sales charts are in, and it reveals that there’s a new game that is currently sitting at the top of the charts. The game is none other than Nintendo Switch’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is a remaster of the Wii U’s Mario Kart 8. This also makes it the first game to hit the top of the charts so far for the Switch, and is Nintendo’s first UK No.1 in over 5 years.
Mario Kart is always a big draw and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe got glowing reviews, so it isn’t surprising to see this game hitting the top of the charts. The original game was already a fantastic racer, but Nintendo took feedback from that game and fixed the battle mode to make it a practically flawless experience. The new battle mode is also accompanied by all of the original game’s DLC, as well as some new racers.
More Switch units were released in order to meet the demand for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which also seems to have helped the sales of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That game has crawled back up to the #5 spot, giving Nintendo two big games in the top 5. This is a fantastic thing to see for Nintendo fans, as it was pretty much nonexistent during the Wii U’s run.
Elsewhere in the UK sales charts we have Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 and Little Nightmares coming into the top 5 as new releases, taking the #2 and #4 spots respectively. Outlast 2 also launched recently, but it failed to crack the top 10. The biggest drop is definitely Ghost Recon: Wildlands, which was sitting in the #1 spot last week but has now dropped to the #7 spot. That game is one of the biggest of the year and has been #1 multiple times, but it looks like its reign may be coming to an end.
