The publisher of the Dark Souls series, Bandai Namco, has finally given a name to the teaser trailer they showed 5 days ago. The game is called Code Vein, and it is an action RPG where you play as a vampire. It was announced from the Japanese weekly magazine, Weekly Famitsu, and was translated by Gematsu. The teaser trailer that was released on YouTube gave little information aside from the “prepare to dine” hashtag. It’s now explained that “prepare to dine” refers to the player’s ability to chow down on the enemy monsters.
However, if you are looking to dine on monsters you’ll have to wait. The developer claims that Code Vein is about 30% of the way done, and that the game won’t be launching until 2018. No platforms for the game have been announced as of yet. We do know that the game is being developed by Shift, which is an indie developer that was funded in June 1999 and has kept most of its focus on mobile and handheld games.
It also is the developer responsible for the Japanese hit game series God Eater. God Eater is a series that is similar to Monster Hunter, but with a little more emphasis on characters and story. It’s set in the future where an alien race of single-celled organisms called Aragami have taken over the planet. The population of humans has significantly dwindled. You play the role of a God arc wielder, who is a person gifted with extraordinary abilities and is one of the only people able to resist and fight back against the Aragami.
Bandai Namco had been the publisher of each of the three installments in the Dark Souls series, though last year’s Dark Souls 3 sadly marked the end for the franchise. Developer FromSoftware revealed that they will be moving on to other types of games, of which several are currently in development.
