2017 is going to be a big year for the Yakuza series, with a couple of notable entries in the series set for release. Yakuza 0 launched earlier this year and delivered a great prequel to the series, but now the long-awaited remake of the first game is in sights. Sega has announced that the game will be coming west on August 29th, exclusively on PlayStation 4.
Yakuza Kiwami is a complete remake of the original PlayStation 2 game, with an extensive graphical overhaul being done along with updated game mechanics being added. The game will be available as both a physical and digital download for $29.99, with the first run of physical releases coming in a limited edition steelbook case. This will be a great deal for fans, and hopefully it will result in strong launch sales that lead to more Yakuza games.
This isn’t the only news we have to share about the game today, as the company also released a brand new story trailer for the game. It does a great job of bringing everyone up to speed on the game’s plot, with plenty of drama to get everyone invested in what’s to come. You can check out the trailer at the bottom of this post.
For those of you who want to get immersed in the Yakuza experience even more, they also launched a companion website for the game called the Yakuza Experience. The website offers an interactive timeline and character map that lets you delve deeper into the game’s cast and story, as well as the first part of what will be a 10-part comic series that covers the entire Yakuza series.
Yakuza Kiwami originally launched in Japan in January of this year, being generally well-received. As for the next main installment in the series, Yakuza 6 is set to launch in Japan in December of this year before coming to other regions in 2018. That game has the tough task of following up the excellent Yakuza 5, which followed several different characters through an intertwining narrative.
