The Fallout series made a big comeback with Fallout 3 when Bethesda took over, making it available on a variety of platforms that brought about a massive audience. This continued with the releases of Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4, but Bethesda has now revealed that they will be taking a different approach with the release of Fallout 5.
The company has announced that Fallout 5 will be a PlayStation 5-exclusive, which currently has a tentative release year of 2022. Bethesda’s Pete Hines made the announcement today, saying that they are looking to make the best installment in the series yet and that is only possible on PlayStation. “The Fallout series is one that millions of gamers hold near and dear to their hearts,” said Hines. “But now comes the time where we make some tough decisions to make it as good as it can possibly be.”
Hines goes on to discuss the benefits of releasing Fallout 5 only on PlayStation 5, noting optimization being a key factor in the equation. “It’s no secret that our games typically launch in a very buggy state, and no matter how much testing we do beforehand there’s always countless problems that users experience. However, nixing the Xbox and PC platforms allows us to focus our optimization efforts on just one platform, and we decided that the PlayStation 5 would be the best place to do that.”
While it’s interesting that Bethesda would announce their next Fallout game as an exclusive to a console that hasn’t even been confirmed yet, Hines assured everyone that “PlayStation 5 is a done deal, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a bonehead.” He certainly has a way with words, but considering the huge success that the PlayStation 4 has enjoyed so far, it really seems like a PlayStation 5 is inevitable.
However, we need to let you know that everything you just read is a lie, as it was all part of an April Fools’ Day joke.
