The Splatoon series will be continuing this summer with the release of Splatoon 2 on Nintendo Switch, though Switch owners will be able to try the game out long before that. The game’s Global Testfire officially starts today, giving people around the world access to the game’s multiplayer and more of that beloved ink-shooting action.
The application for the Global Testfire can be downloaded through the Switch’s eShop, letting you be already for the event as soon as it goes live. The following is a rundown of the days that the Global Testfire will be available to play, as well as what times:
- March 24th: 12:00 PM – 12:59 PM PT
- March 24th: 8:00 PM – 8:59 PM PT
- March 25th: 4:00 AM – 4:59 AM PT
- March 25th: 12:00 PM – 12:59 PM PT
- March 25th: 8:00 PM – 8:59 PM PT
- March 26th: 4:00 AM – 4:59 AM PT
As for what you can expect to have access to during these beta periods, Nintendo has confirmed that there will be four main weapons to go along with new versions of the Splat Roller and Splat Charger.
Splatoon 2 still doesn’t have a solid release date, though it is expected to launch this Summer exclusively for Nintendo Switch. “Two years have passed in this universe since the original Splatoon, and since then, the weapons, maps and characters have evolved,” says Splatoon 2 producer Hisashi Nogami. “Through the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire event this March, players will be able to get a taste of that. There will be more new features to experience in Splatoon 2, so please look forward to more reveals in the future.”
The original Splatoon launched in 2014 as a Wii U-exclusive, and was definitely a risk for Nintendo seeing as it was a new IP. Despite a very different focus in it being a multiplayer shooter launching on a console not known for that style of gameplay at all, the game was a big success and was well-received at launch. Hopefully, the Nintendo Switch will be able to sustain its solid sales so far and perform much better than the Wii U, allowing Splatoon 2 to have a much bigger audience than the first game did.
