The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt seems to be on the verge of receiving a Game of the Year edition, little more than a year after its original release for PS4, Xbox One and PC, after being listed online.
The newest edition of the The Witcher series’ final chapter appeared listed in the official German ratings website, USK, maintaining both the original’s platforms and age rating of 18 and over.
CD Projekt Red’s latest game was praised by fans and critics alike, for its extensive and detailed work, excellent enemy design, character progression and detailed and complex combat system, which culminated in a feature rich experience, that took up to 200 hours to complete.
After release, the third installment of the franchise based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher novels received two extensive expansion packs, Hearts of Stone, on October 2015, and Blood and Wine, this May, adding another 30 hours of gameplay to the already massive action RPG.
Both pieces of paid DLC are expected to feature in the GOTY edition, as is the custom of such re-releases, probably featuring on GoG, Red’s online DRM free retail service, at a reduced price, mimicking previous Witcher releases.
Neither the polish developer, nor the publishers, Bandai Namco and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, have released any statement regarding this matter, nor at any point indicated that a GOTY Edition was a possibility. Instead, they have on multiple occasions stated this is the last version of The Witcher franchise for the foreseeable future, choosing to focus on Cyberpunk 2077, a Sci-Fi RPG expected to arrive between 2017 and 2021, after they launch Gwent, a Witcher based card game, later this year.
