During the XBox portion of the E3 conference a new trailer was revealed for Compulsion Games’s new project, We Happy Few. The trailer focused on the drug dependent society surrounding the main themes of the game, setting the tone for the dystopian world. Complete with painted smiles, altering delusions, and unsettling personalities, players are given a unique glimpse into the developer’s IP.
Taking place in an alternate 1960s England, We Happy Few features a first person art style familiar to most players of Bioshock. This comes with one primary difference, however, being that the focus of the gameplay relies on “hiding in plain sight” survival as opposed to the more aggressive approach (although players are given that option).
Players explore this world in the role of a “downer” – an individual who has not taken their drug – and become familiar with the post World War II society. Gameplay focuses on keeping a low profile, the occasional self-defense, and the careful balance between drugs and sobriety to ensure the player’s survival. The townsfolk are always watching, and doing anything too reckless could be disastrous for the player.
We Happy Few will be available for XBox and PC. Though a specific release date has not yet been set, the paranoia driven IP is set to release later in 2016 with early access available on July 26 2016. For more updates, check out Compulsion Games’s production website.
