If you didn’t get a chance to sit down and watch the Bethesda press conference, feel free to take a seat and read up on everything that you missed! They had a busy year and had a ton of things to cover!
Quake Champions
Bethesda has revealed tonight that Quake is finally coming out of the shadows and it’s better than ever with Quake Champions. Twenty years after the original launch, the eSports pioneer is ready to go. The game is going to be a competitive arena-style shooter on the PC and it’s primarily focused on fast-paced gameplay, incredible graphics, and will be running with an uncapped frame rate. Quake Champions offers several different warriors, each with their own stats and playstyles so you can find the one that best suits you. The game will also have a heavy focus on competitive play, hosting tournaments and leagues beyond what is normally seen at QuakeCon. If you want any more information on this title, you’re probably going to have to wait until August, as more will be released at QuakeCon. Stay Tuned!
Prey
Do you like scary monsters and things that go bump in the night? If you do, you’ll probably want to check out Prey, Bethesda’s new first-person, immersive, psychological thriller. In the start of the trailer, you see a tired Morgan get out of his bed on a Monday morning in the year 2032. The next morning comes and it’s still Monday. Morgan looks in the mirror, and his eyes appear more bloodshot. The next day, still Monday, his eyes even more red. You find out you’re just a test subject in an experiment and something has gone horribly wrong. Aliens board the space station you’re on and suddenly, you’re being hunted. Using the resources and tools you have on the station, you’re forced to survive against the dark forces, or die by their hand. Bethesda didn’t say anything about VR for this game, but it would be so damn cool.
Fallout
Some Fallout 4 updates will be coming to the scene very soon. These updates will be adding small things into the game, like the ability to experiment on the vault dwellers. As far as new building objects go, you will be able to create armor racks, elevators, weapon racks, conveyor belts, and even more! There was also a special VR announcement that Bethesda made, stating that in just one year, Fallout 4 will be completely compatible with the HTC Vive VR Headset. For the first time ever, you will walk the wasteland, explore unknown areas, and help out your settlements with the entire world right in front of your eyes. Fallout Shelter will also be receiving a fairly hefty update, including new locations and enemies, a brand new combat system being implemented, new characters to meet up with in the game, and now you can even send the vault dwellers out on quests! This is set to drop in July, as well as a PC version for the game!
Skyrim and ESO
As far as Skyrim goes, there’s nothing incredibly new. Bethesda announced that they will be launching a remastered version of the game for Xbox One and PS4 with better graphics, audio, and lighting. If you decide to purchase this game on the new consoles, you also have the opportunity to download mods!
Elder Scrolls Online has a huge community already and is one of the best MMO’s that has ever been launched, according to the fans. The numbers are projected to reach even higher as the game launches in Japan on June 23. This new group of warriors will push the number of worldwide players over 7 million! The biggest announcement Bethesda made about ESO is the new addition of what they’re calling, Tamriel One. This is a massive update of the game where all level restrictions have been demolished. Now, after leaving the tutorial zone, you will gain or lose levels depending on the area you’re fighting in. Want to travel to end-game with a buddy who’s been playing for months, no problem. This eliminates all previous content barriers and allows the new players to explore the world with ease, and this is the first time an MMORPG has ever done this before, according to Bethesda. This update should be launching around the fall of this year, so keep your eyes open for it!
Elder Scrolls Legends
In addition to a remastered Skyrim game and the ESO updates, Bethesda also announced a brand new strategic card game, called Elder Scrolls Legends. They didn’t say much about the game, the opening trailer is a small group around a campfire. We are then informed that their warchief is dying and they must prepare for battle. This game is based heavily upon the decisions you choose to make. It determines your cards and changes the direction that you player goes in, to create a more personalized playstyle. The game has a single player campaign, fights with AI, and online multiplayer! If you want to sign up, head on over to Bethesda.net and try to get beta access! After their press conference tonight, they will be letting many more people in to test out the game!
DOOM
I guess DOOM is coming to VR too, according to Bethesda. Nothing says fun like ripping a monster to pieces inches away from your face. As far as the gameplay updates go, Snapmap is being changed up a bit, and new props and items will be brought in. They also decided to add a bunch of new game modes to the game! It’s totally free and should be a ton of fun! The first game modes that will be launched are Exodus and Sector. Exodus is two teams fighting to capture a neutral flag, and Sector is a capture and hold the point game mode, much like dominion on Call of Duty. A second wave of game modes will be rolling in later in the summer. 3 free for all modes, including classic deathmatch, will be coming to the game shortly after the first game mode release. These will be available on all current maps and all maps that come out in the future! A new DLC for the game, Unto the Evil, will also be coming out soon which offers new weapons and armors, new taunts, and even a new playable demon called a Harvester. Also, for this week only, hop on your Xbox One, PS4, or get on Steam on your PC and download the first level of DOOM for free! It’s only available this week though, so you better get moving!
Dishonored 2
Bethesda finished everything up tonight with a 20 minute talk about their new Dishonored 2. The game looks amazing and that’s mostly due to their new engine, called the “Void Engine.” This engine was used in order to make the game seem like a painting in motion. It makes the lighting look gorgeous and makes the game truly feel like an immersive stealth operation. The gameplay is centered around a new area, called Karnaca. They wanted a world that was more immersive and felt more “whole” than the previous game. They want you to truly take over the role of assassin, allowing you to track target’s movements, find their homes, and even the path they take to work in the morning. The game begins 15 years after the events of Dishonored took place, so the characters have aged quite significantly. The game allows you to choose your main character, either Emily or Corvo, as you attempt to take the throne back from a corrupt usurper.
Take the time to check out the full press conference below, and I promise you won’t regret it. Everything looks amazing and they did a really great job staying busy this year! Make sure you check back often as more updates are sure to come on each of these games as we get more information!
