The biker drama has consistently been among the most watched shows at the Disney-owned cable network.
FX will keep riding with Mayans MC.
The Disney-owned cable network has renewed the biker drama for a fourth season. The pickup comes a week ahead of the show’s third-season finale, scheduled for May 11; season four is set to air in 2022.
Co-creator Elgin James took over as showrunner of Mayans MC in season three, after Kurt Sutter was fired from FX in October 2019. The show has remained among FX’s most watched shows in its third season, though its numbers (like most other shows on linear TV) have declined some.
“Elgin James, his creative collaborators, this incredible cast and crew delivered on another epic season of Mayans MC,” said Nick Grad, president original programming at FX Entertainment. “Through three seasons, Mayans has told stories that resonate well beyond the border where the club thrives and survives, inviting fans inside their world and giving them a seat at the table.”
Said James, “I am deeply indebted to everyone at FX and 20th for allowing us to continue to tell the stories of the characters that Kurt and I created and whom our cast and crew took to new heights in season three. In season four we look forward to diving deeper into each character’s truths, exploring the danger of the combustible world they inhabit, and for each writer, cast member and crew to stake out our place as storytellers.”
Through eight episodes this season, Mayans MC is averaging 741,000 same-day viewers per episode, a figure that typically doubles within three days.
Disney’s 20th Television, where James has an overall deal, and FX Productions produce the series. James executive produces with Michael Dinner; Sutter also remains credited as an EP.
