MTV Entertainment Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment are producing the program, which will air on MTV Entertainment platforms, BET, Nickelodeon and Facebook Watch.
Ken Jeong is set to host a television and streaming event called “See Us Unite for Change,” which will celebrate the Asian-American experience during AAPI Heritage Month and in the wake of violence affecting the community.
The event, which will air on Friday, May 21 at 5 p.m. PT across MTV Entertainment platforms including MTV, Comedy Central, CMT, Logo, Paramount Network, Pop TV, Smithsonian Channel, TV Land and VH1, will feature comedy and musical performances, speakers and short films, with appearances from soon-to-be-announced AAPI stars as well as allies. The aim is to excite viewers and instruct them on the community’s importance in the U.S. and support current anti-hate initiatives. The event will also air on BET and Nickelodeon and stream on Facebook Watch.
“This event comes at an important time for our AAPI community, as we unite with our allies to celebrate the breadth and diversity of the Asian American experience,” “See Us Unite for Change” executive producer and Care.com founder Sheila Lirio Marcelo said in a statement. “There is more work to be done in raising awareness of the contributions of our AAPI community and we’re honored to have the support of our partners as we work to build solidarity in service of a more equal and just society in America.”
The event is also executive-produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment’s namesake Jesse Collins, Kimmie Kim and Carol Donovan. MTV Entertainment Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment are producing the program in conjunction with the Ford and MacArthur Foundations.
“We are outraged and deeply saddened by the escalation of hate crimes against AAPI communities and stand with them in the fight against xenophobia and bigotry,” MTV Entertainment Group president Chris McCarthy added in a statement. “Hate against one of us is hate against all of us and by working together on a global scale, we can help end this senseless violence.”
“See Us Unite for Change” is part of the nonprofit-created initiative See Us Unite, which builds solidarity and support for the AAPI community. See Us Unite supports Asian Americans Advancing Justice, Stop AAPI Hate, National Asian Pacific Women’s Forum, The Asian American Education Project, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy, the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans and other organizations.
