His work has been seen in films from ‘Star Trek V: The Final Frontier’ to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’
Concept artist John Eaves — known for his illustrations and designs for the Star Trek series and other science-fiction realms — will receive the Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) Lifetime Achievement Award during the 25th annual ADG Awards, which will be presented during a free-to-view virtual ceremony on April 10.
Herman Zimmerman, Emmy-nominated production designer for the Star Trek franchise, will present the award to Eaves, who was selected for the honor by the Guild’s illustrators and matte artists council.
Eaves has created space vehicles, sets and concepts seen in sci-fi films including four Star Trek movies starting with Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Iron Man 3. His props and model are also on display in titles such as Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Batman Forever, Die Hard 2 and The Hunt for Red October.
“For the past 36 years, John’s work as a production illustrator has been an integral part of over 100 films and television shows. From props, to sets, to vehicles, to gadgets and, most prominent and recognizable, a small fleet of starships for the Star Trek franchise, John has inspired many and left an amazing mark on our industry,” said Tim Wilcox, ADG illustrators & matte artists council chair.
As previously announced, production designer Stuart Wurtzel, set decorator Martha Johnston and scenic artist Patrick DeGreve will also receive Lifetime Achievement Awards during the upcoming virtual ceremony.
