The actress was fired last month following a highly controversial social media post.
Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Chapek on Tuesday addressed the firing of Gina Carano from the Disney+ show The Mandalorian. The executive was asked about the situation during an annual shareholders’ meeting.
Asked by a caller during the Q&A portion if Disney had a “black list,” insinuating Carano, by name, was targeted for her conservative politics, Chapek responded that he does not see Disney as “left-leaning or right-leaning” and that Disney stands “for values that are universal: Values of respect, values of decency, values of integrity and values of inclusion. And we seek to have the content that we make reflective of the rich diversity of the world we live in. And I think that’s a world we should all live in harmony and peace.”
Carano was fired in February following a highly controversial social media post, with a Lucasfilm spokesperson noting in response, “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.” Carano was dropped as a client by UTA.
Carano became a fan-favorite playing former Rebel Alliance soldier Cara Dune on The Mandalorian.
Carano responded to the firing by saying that she was the victim of “cancel culture” and that she would be teaming up with The Daily Wire, the conservative website run by Ben Shapiro, to develop and produce a movie project.
