WarnerMedia’s streaming service is headed to 39 territories across Latin America and the Caribbean in late June.
HBO Max is set to launch in Latin America and the Caribbean in late June 2021.
WarnerMedia’s streaming platform, which launched in the U.S. in May 2020, is making its first foray into international markets by reaching 39 territories in Latin America with programming from HBO, DC and Warner Bros. brands.
“By combining HBO with the very best of WarnerMedia’s series and film catalog, as well as locally produced content from master storytellers in Latin America, HBO Max will offer fans in the region an unforgettable and enriching entertainment experience,” Johannes Larcher, head of HBO Max International, said in a statement.
At launch, existing HBO GO direct-billed customers will get instant access to HBO Max via a new app, and the HBO GO service in Latin America and the Caribbean will be phased out.
In Dec. 2020, WarnerMedia said HBO Max would expand into Latin America and Europe during the second half of 2021. On Thursday, the studio said its HBO-branded streaming services in Europe “are scheduled to be upgraded to HBO Max later this year.”
WarnerMedia has put an increasing focus on HBO Max as its entrant into Hollywood’s streaming wars. That includes expanding programming for the streamer not found with HBO as it taps WarnerMedia’s top franchises including DC Comics, Game of Thrones and Harry Potter.
HBO Max’s upcoming fare includes the Kate Winslet vehicle Mare of Easttown and the YA entry Generation.
