Developer Mistwalker contains people who are responsible for the creation of the Final Fantasy series, and now it seems that they are gearing up to begin development on a new game. The developer recently posted a message on Twitter calling for people to join their team, specifically in the monster and background design segments. Unfortunately, no other information was revealed regarding what these jobs would be needed for, but it nevertheless confirms that something is in the works. There is potential that the game could end up being the console game inspired by Terra Battle that creator Hironubu Sakaguchi previously mentioned interest in developing, though it has been a while since discussions regarding that game have popped up.
Mistwalker began their career with the development of the light-hearted RPG Blue Dragon, which was then followed by Lost Odyssey. While both games have their fans, they unfortunately didn’t sell well enough to warrant the developers to make many more games like them. Recently the devs have been focusing more on mobile games, though they have said in the past that they haven’t abandoned RPGs entirely. Terra Battle is a tile-based tactical RPG, so if they do go ahead with the console game inspired by that then it would more than likely end up being another RPG.
Terra Battle originally released for iOS and Android on October 9, 2014, garnering positive reviews despite the limitations placed on the gameplay due to it being free-to-play. The developers took an interesting approach with the release of new content for Terra Battle, taking inspiration from KickStarter without making fans have to pay. The new content that is added to the game is added when the game reaches a certain amount of downloads, which results in new content like additional music and versions of the game being released.
