OnePlus launched its latest flagship, the OnePlus 5 launched last week. The smartphone became available for purchase today on the company’s official website. Those who would like to buy it in India will need to go through Amazon, as this online store has exclusivity in that country. Although the majority of the world can gain access to the smartphone only starting today, Chinese citizens had a week already to get their hands on the handset. Considering its powerful specs, the OnePlus 5 is not necessarily an expensive smartphone. Its starting price is $480 in the US and €500 in Europe.
The OnePlus 5 has a nice design, which is quite similar to the one of the iPhone 7 Plus, to be honest. Given the fact that the iPhone 7 Plus is a good-looking device, this is not really a bad thing. Even so, OnePlus could have copied the Apple flagship a little more subtlely. The truth is, the OnePlus 5 is a head- turning smartphone. It has a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLOED screen with 1080p resolution and it is powered by the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. Thanks to its 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM, it actually performs better than many other flagships that have the same processor.
One of the best features of the handset is its dual rear camera setup. According to OnePlus, this camera setup will enable users to capture images just as nice as the ones captured with professional cameras. This may be an overstatement, but until we get to actually test the cameras we have to take OnePlus’s word for it. The smartphone has a front-mounted fingerprint sensor and it offers Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, which is a lot faster than the previous versions. The handset also includes a 3,300mAh battery that should be able to ensure up to 18 hours of video playback.
Customers can choose between two color options and two storage options as well. While the Midnight Black and the Slate Gray color options won’t really make a difference, in terms of storage there is quite a big difference between the models. There is a OnePlus 5 that includes 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage and a higher- end version that comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. OnePlus released new color options for the OnePlus 3T so we could actually see new colors for the OnePlus 5 too at some point. Chances are slim that there will be another storage option available anytime soon, though.
This year, OnePlus also launched a number of accessories. These include bags, smartphone cases and such. Customers can order them from the company’s official website too. We don’t know how large the initial stock of the OnePlus 5 is, so in case you would like to buy the OnePlus flagship, maybe it would be a good idea for you to hurry up and order it as soon as possible. There is a high chance that it will run out of stock soon.
