Sonic Frontiers is currently available and in the wild. In our opinion, the game is wonderful overall but has some minor issues, mostly technological. The game’s director, Morio Kishimoto, doesn’t appear to view Frontiers as a finished project and acknowledges that the game is “not quite there yet.” The critical opinion has scarcely been unanimous.
Kishimoto acknowledged community feedback in a Friday Tweet that was retweeted by VGC and in which he stated that “we are checking out the opinions of the critics and players. We will treat this seriously and treat it like a global playtest because, as you pointed out, there are still some areas where we are not quite there.
The general tone of the Tweet is quite clear, but we don’t want to read too much into that comment about the global playtest because translations from Japanese regarding particular terms can be fluid. According to what it sounds like, over the upcoming weeks and months, players may anticipate some very significant patches that will better align the experience with the creator’s intended vision. Check out this cool prologue animation with Knuckles if you’re considering starting Frontiers because it sets the tone for the game.
You bought Sonic Frontiers, right? How do you feel about it so far? Put the competition to the sword in the comments area.
