Sega has released some new patches for Shenmue 1 & 2 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which brings the games up to version 1.02. While the collection of the two games launched in a very solid state last month, there were still some issues that will hopefully all be ironed out with post-launch patches.
As for what this new patch brings to the table, the patch notes claim that the user interface functionality has been improved. Along with that, audio quality, lighting, rendering and save data icon issues have also been improved. Finally, the patch notes simply mention various bug fixes, which isn’t very specific but could still go a long way towards making the game run more smoothly.
Users have reported there being some issues where audio wouldn’t play during certain cutscenes, so hopefully the audio improvements mentioned in the patch notes pertain to that problem. There are also some graphical issues that could use some polish, though nothing major that seriously detracts from the experience.
Shenmue 1 & 2 brings the two beloved games back on modern platforms for the first time ever. Sega has released them to get fans ready for the release of Shenmue 3, which is set to launch on August 27, 2019 for PlayStation 4 and PC. That game has been a long time coming, but thanks to a very successful Kickstarter campaign it is finally happening.
