We learned recently that Capcom would be bringing back the Onimusha series next year, with a remaster of the first game in the works. Onimusha: Warlords HD is set to launch on PS4, Xbox one and PC in January 2019, and now the box art for each version of the game has been revealed. You can check it out at the bottom of this post.
Fans of the original version of the game will notice that the box art seems very familiar, as it is pretty much exactly the same as the original PS2 version. It features an upper body shot of protagonist Samanosuke and the game’s title in front of him, with a simple white background. Pretty basic, but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
As for what fans can expect from this new version of the game, there will be high-definition visuals and improved controls when compared to the original game. One big improvement from a controls standpoint is that players will now be able to use the analog stick to control movement, rather than movement being locked to the d-pad. Easy mode will also be available to select from the beginning, allowing newcomers not accustomed to these types of games to have an easier time.
There is much speculation about what the release of this remaster might mean for the series, as its success could result in remasters of other games and possibly even an Onimusha 5. Capcom definitely seems open to bringing back their older series lately, with Devil May Cry in particular poised to comeback in a big way in 2019.
