We may not even be a week into the year 2016, but that isn’t stopping the announcements of major games from being delayed already. The most recent victim to a major delay is the Xbox One exclusive Scalebound, which is being delayed from a vague 2016 to a now even more vague 2017 release window. The game is being developed by Platinum Games, and the developer made the announcement regarding the massive scope of Scalebound and the accompanying reason for the unfortunate delay.
Here’s what Platinum Games had to say regarding Scalebound on their official website: “Development on the game is going well and we’re really happy with how it’s coming together. Scalebound is one of the biggest games PlatinumGames has ever created: an epic adventure filled with exploration and fantasy gameplay, inventive multiplayer, and action-packed battles on an unbelievable scale – all set in a beautiful and evolving world. It’s the game our team has always dreamed of making. In order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations, we will be launching the game in 2017. This will give us the time needed to bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned.”
They go on to say that they’ll be sharing more about Scalebound later this year and that they’re excited to show everyone what the world of Draconis has to offer. So far we know that it’s an action role-playing game that has the player assuming control of Drew, who travels with a dragon called Thuban. Even though Platinum Games is much more known for developing games that are about all-out action, Scalebound will instead be focusing on deeper RPG elements and an experience that is much more grandiose compared to games like Bayonetta 2 or Transformers: Devastation. The game was originally announced at Microsoft’s press conference at E3 2014, though it missed E3 2015 for a gameplay reveal at Gamescom 2015.
