Tomb Raider is one game franchise that heavily relied on the exploration of interesting and elaborate tombs. With the critically acclaimed Tomb Raider reboot however, we didn’t get to do much tomb exploring, the game focusing more on Lara’s beginnings and survival. It was a nice change of pace, but it’s nice to see Lara Croft returning to her archaeologist roots in Rise of the Tomb Raider, the sequel to the above mentioned reboot. This aspect of the game is precisely what Crystal Dynamic’s latest video for the game showcases. You can check out the video below.
Following two previous videos released earlier by the devs (you can watch them both on the game’s official Youtube page), the Deadly Tombs video focuses on highlighting some key gameplay elements, in this case, as the name suggests, exploring tombs. As you’d expect from a Tomb Raider game (doh, it’s in the name), you’ll be exploring quite a lot of them, and will have to use various skills and abilities to unlock their hidden treasures, which in return will reward you with rare and powerful character abilities. Now, needless to say, I’m extremely excited to see the return of the puzzle-solving aspects of the game and hope to find some interesting puzzles to dust off the cobwebs on my brain.
The trailer also shows off several different locations, outfits for Lara and various gear she’ll be using along the way. From all the current gameplay trailers, it seems Rise of the Tomb Raider will find a nice balance between the more modern, action-oriented approach of the series and the classical, puzzle-solving aspects of the original titles in the franchise. Deadly Tombs is also the last video to be released for the game as Crystal Dynamics has gone gold with the build and the game will be hitting the shelves next week. Unfortunately, and to the very vocal protests of many, Rise of the Tomb Raider, unlike the previous game, will be exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox, at least for now. A PC version will be released early in 2016 though (no set date yet, sorry), but that will do little to appease the disappointed Playstation and PC users itching for tomb exploration.
