The final entry in the Mother series originally launched for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, though it unfortunately only released in Japan. However, even though we previously only had access to the second game in the Mother trilogy that was called Earthbound when it made it stateside, things seem to be turning around very quickly in the lack of localisations for these games. Last Summer we finally got a localization of the first game in the Mother series, which was called Earthbound Beginnings when it hit the US eShop. On top of this, there’s now a rumor going around claiming that a localization of the third game in the series is also on the horizon.
The rumor officially began when journalist Emily Rogers tweeted, “Don’t be surprised if Nintendo celebrates a game’s 10th anniversary this year.” She then quickly deleted the tweet and replaced with a new one featuring a character from Mother along and a smiley face. While this news should be taken with a giant grain of salt, Rogers was also recently linked to a leak of Paper Mario Wii U, which is supposedly coming later this year. What gives more credence to the rumor is the fact that others in the industry have come out saying they have heard similar things about a Paper Mario game for Wii U, and someone even said that Nintendo was in the final stages of a localization for Mother 3. Rogers has been getting into trouble for revealing this information, with her account apparently being deleted very recently.
To give the rumor even more weight, Eurogamer is now reporting that their sources have been saying the same thing. They reiterate what was speculated upon previously of Nintendo releasing the localization of Mother 3 on the Wii U eShop this year to celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary. Nintendo made the announcement of Earthbound Beginnings during E3 last year, so it’s very possible that they could end up doing the same thing with the Localization of Mother 3. Again, take all of this with a grain of salt, but there seems to be more and more sources coming out suggesting that the Mother 3 localization is actually happening.
