After System Shock 3 was officially announced by Boston-based studio OtherSide Entertainment in December and a teaser website was launched with a new and revamped look for SHODAN, not much has been shared since. It turns out there’s a very good reason why.
OtherSide gave a recent update on the status of System Shock 3 on the Underworld Ascendent website and their announcement will disappoint every fan out there. Whilst the developers are currently hard at work, the game is still only in the initial stages of development and it’ll be a while yet before it goes into full production. With work still in its very early stages, the developers don’t have anything else to share at the moment other than the concept art of SHODAN and a clip of her voice.
Here’s an excerpt of OtherSide’s update post:
“System Shock 3 is currently in the very beginning stages of concept development and we won’t be digging fully into game production for some time. Our studio focus today remains squarely on Underworld Ascendant. But we thought it’d be fun for our Underworld Ascendant fans — many of whom are fans of the System Shock series as well — to get a peek at what will be coming down the road.”
With OtherSide working simultaneously on Underworld Ascendent and System Shock 3, as well as looking into the possibility of Virtual Reality support, the developers understandably have a lot on their plate at the moment so it’ll be a while before there will be any new updates.
System Shock 3 is currently in development but no platforms or a release date has been announced yet. We’ll keep you posted on any announcements and updates related to the game so stay tuned.
