OnePlus’s next flagship, the OnePlus 6 is different from last year’s OnePlus 5 on all levels. First of all, the OnePlus 6 will be the first handset of the company that will not launch in June. Instead, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer will unveil its newest device next month. To be more specific, we will first get to officially see the OnePlus 6 on may 16, in London. The handset will also have festive launch events in Beijing and Mumbai, however, these will take place a day later, on May 17. The new OnePlus also adopts a new design and it will be the first model to come with 256GB internal storage.
The launch event may still be more than two weeks away, however, thanks to several sources, we know almost everything there is to know about it. First of all, the OnePlus 6 will be a huge device. It will reportedly sport a 6.28-inch display. The bezels on the device are extremely thin, even so, it will most likely be a larger device than any other OnePlus before it. The design has changed a lot since the OnePlus 5 and it even changed a little compared to the OnePlus 5T that launched in November. The most obvious change is the camera notch on the front which makes us think about the iPhone X a little bit. This is the new trend, so it’s not a surprise that the OnePlus 6 sports this design.
Under the hood, just like any other OnePlus, the OnePlus 6 hides the best chipset available on the market at this point. This year, it’s the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, depending on the configuration of the phone. As for the internal storage, users will be able to choose between 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB variants. Since there is no card slot on this model either, users should choose wisely as the internal storage is all they get.
Just like the OnePlus 5T, the new model features a dual camera setup on the back consisting of a 16MP sensor and a 20MP one and a 16MP camera on the front for selfies and video calls. The 3.5mm audio jack is still here, that is one trend that OnePlus decided not to follow just yet. The battery got a little boost too. The new model will reportedly come with a 3,450mAh energy pack that supports fast charging. Wireless charging is still not in the cards, so don’t get your hopes up.
Those who want to be among the first ones to see the new OnePlus 6 can attend the launch events in London and Mumbai. Tickets for the London event are already available for purchase and those who buy one before Friday can get their hands on it for a special price. Those who would like to attend the event in Mumbai will have to wait a little longer as tickets will become available only starting May 8. The handset will go on sale starting May 21, according to the latest news.
