We’ve seen some flagship devices launch this year already, however, there are still a lot more to come. One of the upcoming devices is the HTC U12, codenamed “Imagine”. Last year’s U11 impressed a lot of people with its nice design and powerful specs. The HTC U12 will not fall behind either, at least if we are to believe the recently leaked information. Unfortunately, we don’t have a clear and reliable picture of the device yet. Even so, a Twitter user spilled the beans on what we can expect specs-wise from the handset and the famous leakster, Evan Blass, confirmed everything LlabTooFer stated in their post.
The upcoming HTC U12 definitely seems to be a flagship device, at least on paper. The new HTC smartphone will reportedly feature the current Qualcomm flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 845. This is the same SoC we now have on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus in the US and China. It is also the chipset that will probably be in every flagship device to launch this year, except for the iPhone 9, of course. The powerful SoC will be paired with 6GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage in the case of the HTC U12.
The smartphone will reportedly feature a 5.99-inch display with QHD+ resolution and it will have an IP68 rated body. The HTC U12 will most likely feature facial recognition and it will most definitely bring along the Edge Sense feature HTC fans just love. There will reportedly be a change in the camera section, as the HTC U12 brings back the dual rear camera setup. The new model, if we are to believe the rumors, will sport a camera setup consisting of a 12MP and a 16MP sensor. Both of these will be Sony IMX sensor, so the resulting images should be at least above average quality if not downright amazing. On the front, the HTC U will feature an 8MP selfie snapper.
Other features of the upcoming HTC U12 include a 3,420mAh battery, full treble support, and Android 8.0 OS. Hopefully, the upcoming device will also get an improvement in terms of Bluetooth connectivity. Last year’s model still came with Bluetooth 4.2, while other flagships already offered the much faster Bluetooth 5.0. Unfortunately for nostalgics, there is no sign of the 3.5mm audio jack, this feature just seems to be fading away. According to the aforementioned source, the smartphone will become available both in single SIM and in dual SIM versions.
At this point, we don’t have a clear launch date for the HTC U12, however, rumor has it that it will become official sometime in April. There is no information regarding the pricing of the device either. It’s safe to assume that it will cost at least as much as last year’s U11, possibly even more. We will most likely find out more about the matter in the upcoming weeks.
