Samsung’s mid-range handset, the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) is available for purchase, starting today, in Europe. The smartphone is definitely not the cheapest mid-range device, costing €499 in the Netherlands. This translates into $595, which is quite a high price for a mid-range smartphone. Of course, for this price, customers will get a handset with a modern look, a solid build, and rather impressive specs. Even so, the same customers could opt for other smartphones that offer even more for the same amount of money, such as the Essential Phone or the slightly more expensive OnePlus 5T.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) is quite different from the 2017 variant of the same model. The new handset adopts Samsung’s Infinity Display and 18:5:9 aspect ratio, moving the fingerprint scanner to the back of the device. On the front, there is only the beautiful Full HD resolution Super AMOLED display that will certainly impress its users. On the back, there is also a 16MP primary camera, set just above the fingerprint sensor. The selfie camera of the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) is much more interesting, as it is a dual camera setup, consisting of a 16MP sensor and an 8MP one. Basically, as far as cameras go, the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) is more impressive than last year’s flagship device, the Galaxy S8.
Under the hood of the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018), there is an Exynos 7885 octa-core chipset which is paired with a Mali-G71 GPU. Tha handset includes 4GB of RAM and comes in two storage variants, including 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. While this model doesn’t support wireless charging, users will be able to benefit from the fast charging feature of the device and charge the 3,000mAh battery of the handset extremely fastly and easily.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) might have arrived in Europe, however, its larger sibling, the Galaxy A8+ is nowhere to be seen. It’s not sure that it won’t arrive at all, but chances are scarce that European customers will get to welcome it anytime soon. The smartphone will also become available for purchase in India, starting tomorrow, January 10.
