Last year, the Xiaomi Mi Mix was one of the biggest surprises in the smartphone market with its almost bezel-less design and incredible screen-to-body ratio. This year, the Chinese company went even further with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. It made it a little smaller, it narrowed the bezels down even more, and it equipped it with flagship hardware. As if this wasn’t enough by itself, Xiaomi even announced that the handset will become available with a ceramic unibody too. Up to this point, only the White Ceramic Edition was available. Next week, this will change. Xiaomi is going to release the Black Ceramic Edition Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 in China, alongside the Starck Edition of the same model.
The only thing that differentiates the Starck Edition Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 from the original model is the presence of the designer’s signature inscribed on the back of the handset. Otherwise, it’s the same Mi Mix 2, including 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. The Black Ceramic Edition has a ceramic unibody, as its name suggests, being the only device of this kind. No other manufacturer delivered a ceramic unibody until now. The base model of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 also has a ceramic back, but it comes with an aluminum frame. On the inside, it is just as great as the limited editions, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, a beautiful 5.99-inch Full HD display, 6GB of memory and up to 256GB of internal storage.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Black Ceramic Edition comes in only one storage variant. It includes 128GB of flash storage, which is not the most the Mi Mix 2 can do, but it does compensate for the smaller storage by adding 2GB of memory to the standard model’s 6GB of RAM. Normally, the high-end features come with a price. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Starck Edition will cost 4,999 CNY (€641) in China. The Black Ceramic Edition will be a little more affordable, costing only 4,699 CNY (€600). Even so, this model is a lot more affordable than other flagship smartphones, despite offering similar specs.
