Everyone is eagerly waiting for the Android Oreo upgrade to reach their smartphones. HMD Global already confirmed that its handsets will receive the update, so Nokia users really have something to wait for. The company’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas today shared with Nokia fans that they are launching Nokia phones beta labs. Basically, they will grant some users the privilege to test Android Oreo before it officially starts rolling out to Nokia handsets. The first ones to get to do this are Nokia 8 us. However, Nokia 3, 5, and 6 users will also become a part of the program soon.
Receiving the Android Oreo upgrade is not only a privilege for Noia 8 users, it’s also a great way for the company to perfect its version of the software. Beta testers will signal every bug and issue so that HMD Global will be able to fix them before officially rolling out the upgrade to the general public. Those who own a working Nokia 8 handset can sign up for the program on Nokia’s website. In order to enter the program, users will need to create an account on Nokia or sign in with their Facebook or Google account. After that, they will need to provide the IMEI number of their Nokia 8 smartphone and the network operator they use. After completing these steps, they will receive the beta software over-the-air. From there on, the fun begins.
Beta testers will be able to provide feedback in two different ways. They can either use the special Feedback app, which is pre-installed, or they can share their thought on the matter with other beta testers on in the Nokia phones community. While it’s hard to imagine that someone would like to give up testing the new software and go back to the older version, this will be a possibility. Beta testers who no longer wish to test the Android Oreo software will be able to ask for a rollback over the air. Also, they can unregister from the program completely.
As we already mentioned, the beta testing program is only available for Nokia 8 right now. It will become available for Nokia 3, 5, and 6 models also sometime in the future. It’s not quite clear when, but the beta testing program will start sometime soon. Unfortunately, according to Sarvikas, no physical Oreos will be included.
