The iPhone X and the BlackBerry KEYone both launched this year and they are both the flagship device from their respective manufacturers. Even so, they couldn’t be more different. Of course, they don’t target the same niche, so they aren’t exactly direct competitors. The Apple flagship offers really high-end features and some amazing specs. But do we really need them or a smartphone like the BlackBerry KEYone is more suitable for the majority of us?
iPhone X
Apple’s iPhone X is definitely one of the most awaited smartphones of this year. It is also the first Apple smartphone to come with a truly major design change and the first one to sport an AMOLED display. The design of the handset is quite bold for an Apple device, as it is now all-screen, leaving the circular home button behind. It also ditched the fingerprint sensor, naturally, and it only relies on facial recognition now. The glass body of the smartphone is quite nice and the 5.8-inch bezel-less display is just amazing. Though the camera cut-out is, according to some, quite odd, it has its purpose and it really allows users to fully use the huge display. Of course, some apps don’t use the whole surface of the display, but others do.
The iPhone X doesn’t only come with a new design, it also has a brand new processor. Apple promises the A11 Bionic chipset to be the most powerful one available on the market. It is a hexa-core chipset, paired with only 3GB of RAM, however, it works great on the iPhone 8, so it will probably be the same on the iPhone X too. As for the internal storage, the iPhone X includes 64GB or 256GB of it. The handset doesn’t offer the possibility for users to further expand the storage as it lacks a microSD card slot. The smartphone’s 2,716mAh battery also seems to be a little small, but it should be able to take users through the day on a single charge. It’s the first time the iPhones support wireless charging besides fast charging, however, users will need to turn to third-party accessories for this until next year.
Just like last year’s iPhone 7 Plus, the iPhone X features a powerful dual rear camera setup that is supposed to capture some amazing images. The handset’s 7MP TrueDepth camera is the one responsible for facial recognition too. Instead of just scanning the user’s face in 2D, it does it in 3D, allowing for a more secure recognition. The smartphone offers the latest Bluetooth 5.0 connection, and it runs iOS 11. The new software comes with great AR support, which means it can ensure a great user experience whenever its owner wants to play AR games or use AR apps.
One downside to the iPhone X is its price. The handset will become available starting November 3, with a $999 starting price for the 64GB version and a $1,150 price tag for the 256GB variant. It will be available in Silver and Space Gray color options.

BlackBerry KEYone
The BlackBerry KEYone is the company’s flagship device of this year. This model brought back the physical keyboard many users love, and it offers a set of higher mid-range specs and features. The BlackBerry KEYone may not look as modern as the iPhone X does, but then again, it has a totally different design with the keyboard. The squarish top and the rounded bottom come together in creating a nice-looking handset. The KEYoneis slightly larger and thicker than the iPhone X. It is also a tad heavier, however, the difference is barely noticeable. The smartphone’s 4.5-inch LCD screen has a Full HD+ resolution, with a pixel density close to the one of the Apple flagship’s display’s.
BlackBerry’s KEYone is not a high-end smartphone, and it doesn’t really need to have the latest processor in order to be a great one. ThlackBerry handset comes with the power-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 on board and it includes 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage or 4GB of memory and 64GB storage. In addition to this, it also features a microSD card slot that allows users to add up to 256GB of external storage. The smartphone’s 3,505mAh battery is considerably larger than the iPhone X’s, ensuring a much better battery life. This handset features fast charging support, however, it doesn’t support wireless charging.
In terms of cameras, the BlackBerry KEYone doesn’t do as well as the Apple iPhone X. It only comes with a single 12MP sensor on the back and an 8MP lens on the front. They might not be of the same quality as the cameras of the iPhone X, however, these cameras are perfectly capable of recording high-quality video and capturing great pictures. For security purposes, the KEYone features a front-mounted fingerprint sensor. Unfortunately, the KEYone only features Bluetooth 4.2, which is a little slower. The BlackBerry device has something over the iPhone X and that is the 3.5mm audio jack. The smartphone runs Android Nougat out of the box and it will most likely get the Android Oreo update too.
Naturally, the BlackBerry KEYone is more affordable than the Apple iPhone X. The 32GB smartphone currently sells for $550 on Amazon. The price of the 64GB variant is a little higher, around$700, however, customers also get a boost in memory for this price.

– octa-coreQualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset
– 3GB/4GB RAM
– 32GB/64GB storage + up to 256GB external storage
– 12MP rear camera, 8MP secondary camera

Which one to opt for?
If you want to own a true flagship device with all the most powerful specs and a modern design, the Apple iPhone X is the better choice out of the two. In case you don’t necessarily think of your smartphone as a fashion accessory, however, the BlackBerry KEYone is the best device for you. Especially if you use your smartphone for business purposes. Texting and writing emails is a lot easier than it is on the iPhone X. The BlackBerry Hub is also incredibly useful, making the user’s life a lot easier. It is also notable that the KEYone is more affordable than the Apple iPhone X. Overall, it is a reliable handset with a lot to offer. To be honest, the majority of people would be better off with this handset instead of the Apple iPhone X.
