Now that VR has become a part of our lives, there are lots of VR headsets that offer us the possibility to enjoy the technology. The current devices are already exciting, however, even more interesting ones are coming our way and will most likely become the best VR headsets for 2018. Some of them are already fully developed and have been unveiled, others are still in project stage. They all have one thing in common: they are more amazing than anything we’ve seen before. They offer greater features than the current models, ensuring an even more immersive experience in many cases.
Oculus Santa Cruz
Oculus Rift was the first VR headset to bring the technology to our attention. Naturally, the upcoming Oculus Santa Cruz is going to be an improved version of the existing Rift. At this point, Oculus didn’t yet unveil the end product, however, it did show off some prototypes that hinted towards what is coming our way in the form of Santa Cruz. First of all, it is a standalone, wireless headset, so users won’t need to clear wires out of their way all the time. The graphics also got a lot better, and the controllers that will come with the Oculus Santa Cruz are greater too. Built-in spatial audio and a greater number of sensors will complete the image of the Santa Cruz. Hopefully, we will get to see the product fully developed sometime in 2018.
Pimax 8K
The Pimax 8K VR headset started out as a Kickstarter project, and it will soon hit the shelves. At this point, the company only offers the 4K version of the device. However, the 8K gadget will be a lot cooler. The Pimax 8K offers two 3840 x 2160 displays, ensures a wide, 200-degree field of view, and it pretty much solves the problem of motion sickness many VR headsets users encounter. The strange-looking device might not impress everyone at first glance, but it truly offers an immersive experience and thanks to its wider field of view, it just feels more natural than other VR headsets. On Kickstarter, it had a $499 price tag, which is quite reasonable for what it has to offer.
Google Daydream View 2
Google already unveiled the second-generation Daydream View, which now comes with a new fabric, making it more comfortable to wear, and an increased field of view that really improves the user experience. This is one of the most affordable VR headsets, costing only $99. This is only $20 more than customers paid for the original version of this VR headset. For the extra money, they get the new and enhanced device. it may not be the greatest one available on the market, but it is quite nice and offers an interesting user experience. Unlike the Oculus Santa Cruz, this is not a standalone headset, as users will have to use it with their smartphones.
Oculus Go
The Oculus Go will become available in early 2018, and in November developer kits will start heading out. This is one of the mid-range VR headsets, as it’s not as high-end as the Oculus Santa Cruz, but it isn’t as low end as the Gear VR either. The device features inside-out tracking and will reportedly come with “next generation” lenses and built-in spatial audio. The aforementioned lenses will not only reduce glare, they will also improve the field of vision. The price of the Oculus go will reportedly start at $199. Users will have the chance to access over 1,000 VR games, apps, and 360-degree experiences with this particular VR headset. In order to use it, there is no need for wires, or a PC, which is great.
Samsung Odyssey
The Samsung Odyssey will become available starting November 6 for $499. This is one of the few VR headsets that truly offer a high-end VR experience, and it is really close to the quality of the Oculus devices. The VR headset, or to b more precise, the MR headset, is extremely comfortable to wear and really nice to use. It only has a 110-degrees field of view, but even so, it’s capable of ensuring a great user experience. The VR headset includes built-in spatial headphones from AKG and two 1400 X 1600 AMOLED displays. The Samsung Odyssey is a great Windows Mixed reality headset, probably the greatest of its kind yet.
As you can see, there are a lot of great products coming our way next year. With these, we will be able to enjoy truly immersive VR experiences we could only dream of a few years ago. Some VR headsets are quite expensive, however, there are others the majority of people could afford. Naturally, the more expensive they are, the greater the experience.
