Until now, WhatsApp users enjoyed the emojis developed by Apple for iOS. Now, in the latest Android beta v2.17.364, the instant messaging service has its own set of emojis. As one should probably expect, the new emojis look like a mixture of the iOS and Android Oreo emojis. Users who don’t often use these features might not notice the difference, however, the new set is somewhat different from the iOS emojis used before. This actually brings WhatsApp’s emojis a little closer to the ones featured in Android Oreo. Some people seem to love the new set, others don’t. Of course, there are also smartphone users who don’t really care about the new or old emojis.
It also seems that in the new beta release, emoji support is included up to Emoji 5.0, which is the latest version approved by Unicode. This means that the new WhatsApp emojis also include fantasy emojis. These still aren’t available on iOS. Of course, WhatsApp users should keep in mind that at this point this is only a beta. The emojis could change before the official release or not even be released at all in the end. It is also possible that nothing will change and this is the set of emojis we will see in WhatsApp in a few weeks or days.
Nowadays we seem to express a lot through emojis. It is easier to select one of these images than actually write down what we feel or think. In some cases, it saves a lot of time, in others, it is just more fun to share images than to write words. Whether we like them or not, they can change and we will probably get used to the new ones soon. Many of us don’t like Facebook’s emojis but we use them anyway. Probably this will be the case with WhatsApp’s emojis too. We will simply get used to them the way they are and use them even if we preferred the iOS version.
