We’ve seen Xiaomi deliver a few handsets with true flagship features. One feature that was missing from all of them was the wireless charging support. According to the latest reports, this will soon change. Xiaomi’s next flagship device, the Xiaomi Mi 7 will reportedly support wireless charging. The Chinese company recently joined the Wireless Power Consortium, which means it is one of the tech firms that is going to promote Qi wireless charging platform. Even though the Xiaomi Mi 7 will probably be the first Xiaomi handset to support wireless charging, it definitely won’t be the last. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will probably come with this feature too.
The fact that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will support wireless charging tells us at least one thing about its design: it will have a glass back. This is one of the requirements for smartphones to support this technology. The Mi 6 already had a glass back, so this will not actually be a change in the design. At least we know that it is a feature that will return with the next flagship too. We have no information regarding the other features of the Xiaomi Mi 7 yet, but even if it will be a Mi 6 with wireless charging support and the latest version of Android, it should still be a nice device.
It is rather surprising that Xiaomi didn’t add wireless support to the recent Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The flagship handset offers a number of high-end features and wireless charging support would have made a lot of sense too. Even without it, the handset sold out in less than a minute when the first flash sale went live. Maybe Xiaomi wanted to keep this feature for its 2018 handsets, or it simply couldn’t integrate the wireless charging support into its smartphone in time. The reason why the Chinese tech company didn’t add this feature to its Mi Mix 2 is not that important anymore since the handset already launched.
We are eager to see what the Xiaomi Mi 7 will be like and what other new features it will bring. There still are months to go until its launch and we will probably find out more about it before its unveiling.
