One of the most popular smartphone manufacturers in India just launched its latest handset, the Vivo V7 Plus. The Chinese company’s brand new smartphone is definitely an interesting mixture of high- end and mid- range features. While the Vivo V7 Plus looks like a high- end smartphone with its 18:9 aspect ratio and extremely slim bezels, it isn’t. Vivo might have managed to squeeze a 5.99-inch display into a body similar in size to the one of a 5.5-inch handset, the display only offers a 720p resolution. Also, the smartphone features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset which isn’t bad, however, it’s far from being a flagship mobile platform.
Without a doubt, the Vivo V7 Plus is an eye- catching device with its modern design. Its Snapdragon 450 SoC, however, turns this smartphone into a mid- range handset. The 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage are on the limit, as we’ve seen both mid- range smartphones and high- end devices offering the same amount of memory and flash storage. Even the 3225mAh is a feature that could be present in smartphones from both categories. What truly impresses in the case of this smartphone is its facial recognition technology and its cameras. We’ve only seen the former in high- end gadgets, and even on those, it didn’t work perfectly.
The Vivo V7 Plus is the first smartphone to launch with a 24MP front- facing camera. Most smartphones don’t have this type of cameras on the back, so it’s really surprising to see such a sensor in a selfie- camera. This is, without a doubt, the selling point of the Vivo V7 Plus. Besides the cool design and the facial recognition feature, of course. The smartphone runs Android Nougat out of the box. it’s not quite clear whether it will get the Android Oreo update at some point or not. For many users, it probably won’t even matter as they will purchase this smartphone for its selfie camera, not its operating system.
Another aspect that turns the Vivo V7 Plus into a mid- range device is its price tag. The smartphone will go on sale starting September 15 with a ₹21,990 retail price. This translates into around $344, which really is a reasonable price for such specs and features. Pre- booking will be available starting September 7. Unfortunately, at this point, the device will only be available in China. Later on, we will see whether Vivo will bring it to other markets too.
