Xiaomi officially announced the Xiaomi Mi A1 and it is exactly what everyone thought it will be like. Basically, in terms of hardware, the Xiaomi Mi A1 and the Xiaomi Mi 5X are identical. The only thing that is differentiates these handsets is their respective operating system. While the Xiaomi Mi 5X, that launched back in July in China, runs Xiaomi’s MIUI on top of Android Nougat 7.1.1, the newer model runs stock Android Nougat 7.1.2 out of the box. While it’s not a major difference, users will definitely be able to see it.
The brand new Xiaomi Mi A1 has the same design as the Xiaomi Mi 5X. It sports a 5.5-inch FullHD LCD display and a simple design with rounded edges. As for the hardware, both the Xiaomi Mi 5X and the Mi A1 come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset paired with an Adreno 506 GPU. The handsets include 4GB of memory. While the Xiaomi Mi 5X is available with 32GB or 64GB of internal storage in China, the MI A1 will only come in one storage option, including 64GB of internal storage. A 3,080mAh battery will take users through the day on a single charge.
Just like the Mi 5X, the Xiaomi Mi A1 features a dual rear camera setup consisting of two 12MP sensors. The front- facing camera has a 5MP sensor, which is not as impressive anymore, however, it is able to capture more than decent selfies and is great for video calls. Even though the Mi A1 will run stock Android, Xiaomi kept the MIUI camera app. Naturally, there are no changes in the WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity either. They are the same versions the Xiaomi Mi 5X comes with.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 might come with Android Nougat on board, however, it will get the Android Oreo update before the end of the year. Also, it seems that this device will be among the first ones to get the Android P update next year. This will probably help Xiaomi win a great number of fans. After all, there aren’t too many handsets that run stock Android and being among the first ones to receive a new update is always great. The handset will become available in 37 countries from Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. Unfortunately, the US is not on the list and it’s highly likely that it won’t get on it anytime soon.
Just like the majority of Xiaomi handsets, the Xiaomi Mi A1 has a reasonable price tag. It will cost somewhere around $200, with the price varying depending on the country. Customers will be able to purchase the brand new model starting September 12, both online and in select offline stores.
