Xiaomi is known mainly for its budget handsets. However, the company clearly proved that it is able to deliver higher- end smartphones also, like this year’s Xiaomi Mi 6 or the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The Xiaomi Mi 7 will be the successor of the Mi 6 and it seems it will be even more impressive. The smartphone, which will launch in the first quarter of next year, will reportedly sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and will include 6GB or even 8GB of RAM. Naturally, it will run on Android Oreo.
According to reports, the Xiaomi Mi 7 will not maintain the screen size of its predecessor. Instead of the 5.15-inch display of the Mi 6, the Mi 7 will offer a larger, 6-inch screen. Also, Xiaomi will reportedly change the LCD panel used on the Mi 6 with an AMOLED screen. The new model’s display will be built by Samsung. If rumors prove to be true and the Mi 7 will come with the Snapdragon 845 SoC, it actually could be the first handset to bring the new mobile platform to the users. The Samsung Galaxy S9 will also offer this chipset, however, it will probably launch after the Xiaomi Mi 7. We must admit, Xiaomi is really becoming a serious player in the smartphone market.
Even though we don’t have any official information regarding the specs of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 7, it’s safe to assume that it will offer high- end features. Besides the powerful processor and the 6GB or 8GB of RAM, it will most likely impress with its design and camera too. The current Mi 6 model features a dual rear camera, so its successor will probably keep this feature. It’s not clear whether we will see an increase in megapixels, but even if the camera won’t get a boost, it will still be quite a nice one.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 comes with a 3,350mAh battery. Given the larger display of the Xiaomi Mi 7, it would be nice if it came with a larger battery too. A 3,500 – 4,000mAh battery should be able to take users through the day on a single charge. A waterproof body would also be a nice feature, as the Mi 6 is only splash resistant. Even if the Xiaomi Mi 7 will be more expensive than this year’s Mi 6, its price should normally remain under the $500 threshold. The launch of the Mi 7 is still months away. We will certainly find out more about the handset before its unveiling. What seems to be certain is that it will be an appealing device with a reasonable price tag and really nice specs and features.
