Nokia finally launched its flagship, the Nokia 8 last week. In fact, HMD Global did, but that is only a technicality. The Nokia flagship is now out and even more, customers can already pre- order it, at least in some countries. Two of the first states to embrace the new Nokia model were Germany and Russia. After that, pre-orders went live in Australia too, with Poland, Norway, and Switzerland following closely behind. In all of these countries, the Nokia 8 is more affordable than we initially thought it will be. While its price varies depending on the market it sells on, it is set between €575 and €580. The price goes higher than €600 only in Poland.
Even though pre-orders are already live, the handsets will only start shipping in September. In Australia, for example, the smartphone will hit the shelves on September 7. There are only a little over two weeks until then, so customers won’t have to wait too long for it to arrive on their doorsteps. The Nokia 8 is without a doubt the best Nokia handset to launch this year. To be honest, it is the first handset with high- end specs to launch in the past few years. Even so, it’s hard to predict whether it will be enough for Nokia to make a serious comeback and re- establish its fame.
The Nokia 8 might be made of high- quality materials, but it has a rather dated design. Its bezels are just too thick for a 2017 flagship smartphone. Other manufacturers already deliver bezel- less handsets with edge- to- edge displays, however, the Nokia 8 sports a thick bezel both on the top and on the bottom. At least the side bezels are thin. Also, the screen is a little curved, which makes the handset look more modern. The handset also disappoints when it comes to its water resistance. While other flagships nowadays are IP67 or IP68 certified, the Nokia flagship is only splash resistant with its IP54 certification.
Of course, the Nokia flagship also has a lot of great specs to offer. Its QHD display, for instance, is a very nice feature, just like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. The smartphone is available in two storage options: 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage and 6GB of memory combined with 128GB of native storage. The Zeiss optics are probably the best feature of this smartphone model, and also its selling point. Everyone knows that the Zeiss cameras capture some amazing images, and this will definitely turn the Nokia 8 into a more appealing handset than it would be without these optics.
The Nokia 8 will gradually reach all the markets in the world. Its reasonable price tag could make it up for the dull design. The build of the handset might be a solid one, but it definitely won’t turn any heads. Even so, it probably will prove to be a reliable handset and it will definitely be a delight for huge Nokia fans who finally are able to enjoy using another Nokia handset with powerful specs.
