Nokia launched three new Android smartphones this year, the Nokia 3, the Nokia 5, and the Nokia 6. Even though they are all solid handsets with good specs for their respective categories, none of them are flagship devices. Everyone was waiting for Nokia to finally release its flagship handset. Some of us thought it will be the Nokia 9, others bet on the Nokia 8. Now, it seems that the latter have won the best and HMD Global will finally announce the Nokia flagship. The Nokia 8 will launch at the end of this month. On July 31, to be more exact.
According to a Scandinavian retailer, who shared the launch date with Winfuture.de, the handset will be available with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Previous GeekBench listings also hinted towards an 8GB memory version, however, it seems we won’t be getting it after all. At least not just yet. The same source also disclosed that the smartphone will cost €589. It will probably have a similar price in the US too when it will start shipping there. The Nokia 8 will reportedly be available in four color variants: blue, steel, gold/blue, and gold/copper. Even though HMD Global will unveil the new smartphone on July 31, it’s safe to assume that it will only start shipping in August or even in September.
The Nokia 8 will reportedly don a 5.3-inch QHD display. The design will probably be similar to the one of the previously launched models, combining a traditional design with modern elements. The build quality will probably remain the same too. As for its power, the Nokia 8 will most likely feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. This should ensure a great user experience combined with the 4GB of memory and 64GB of native storage. The handset will run on Android Nougat out of the box. The Nokia 8 could feature a 13MP dual rear camera setup. However, this feature was not confirmed yet. Even without a formal confirmation of this feature, it’s safe to assume that Nokia will opt for a dual camera setup for its flagship device.
Other features of the upcoming Nokia 8 include a front- mounted fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth 5.0 (probably), WiFi and GPS connection, and a USB Type- C reversible connector. We know that HMD Global has partnered up with Zeiss Optics for the cameras of the upcoming devices. However, it seems to be too early for the two companies to have managed to deliver the first handsets with Zeiss cameras already. We will probably see the first Nokia smartphones with Zeiss cameras only next year. Even without the Zeiss optics, the Nokia 8 should be a good flagship smartphone with a nice sheet of specs. We will find out more about it on July 31, the latest.
