Samsung just announced the Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro in Thailand. It comes only weeks after the release of the Galaxy J5 (2017). While the Pro addition to a model’s name usually means some extra specs and features, the Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro is actually only a minor upgrade compared to the previously launched J5. Basically, it only offers more memory and storage. It is basically another version of the base model. Except for the amount of RAM and internal storage, both handsets are exactly the same.
The Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro, just like the Galaxy J5 (2017) has a 5.2-inch display with a 720p resolution and a 282ppi pixel density. The design hasn’t changed a bit either. The J5 Pro looks exactly like the base model, with the same rounded corners, slim side bezels and the home button under the screen. The home button also houses the handset’s fingerprint sensor. The software didn’t change either. The Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro runs on the same version of Android Nougat as the base model does. Even the processor is the same Exynos 7870 Octa clocked at 6GHz.
As we already mentioned, there is a minor upgrade when it comes to memory and storage. While the base model is available with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, the Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro offers 3 GB of memory and 32 GB of internal storage. The extra memory can definitely come in handy. However, when it comes to the internal storage it really isn’t worth the extra money as the base model also featured a microSD card slot. Thanks to this users could already add extra storage to the handset. Of course, internal storage works a little faster, but is it worth paying more for it? Not really sure.
The Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro features the same 13 MP sensors on the front and the back of the handset, so users won’t get anything extra there. The quality of the images and videos will be exactly the same. The battery didn’t get a boost either, it’s the same 3,000mAh one as the one on the base model. At this point, the Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro seems to become available only in Thailand. It’s not clear whether the South Korean company plans on launching it in any other market. In Thailand, the price of the Galaxy J5 Pro will be 9,990 Baht, which is around $300.
