Apple is about to release three new handsets: the iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, and the iPhone 8. This, however, doesn’t mean that there aren’t people who still prefer the older models, especially since they are more affordable. Thankfully, they are also quite powerful, even though technology is changing fast and every generation of smartphones brings something new to the table. Let’s face it, the majority of people don’t really need all the new features smartphones have to offer. Older models are still able to ensure a good user experience. This year, for example, customers can opt for the Apple iPhone SE or the iPhone 6s, which are still outstanding handsets and are now available for more affordable prices. Choosing between them can prove to be difficult, as they are both great smartphones.
Apple iPhone SE
Unique price on Amazon
The Apple iPhone SE is the most recent model out of the two. It launched last year, and it quickly became popular. Its popularity is mainly based on its size format. The iPhone SE is one of the smallest iPhones available on the market, making it extremely easy to handle. It is also easy to fit into pockets and purses, unlike the current flagships which tend to be a lot larger. It has the same design as any other Apple handset, with rounded corners, a round fingerprint sensor on the front, the back camera set in the upper corner of the back cover, and the Apple logo. The Space Gray model is the only one that comes with a black detail on the top and bottom on the back, other color options come in white and silver, white and gold and white and rose gold combinations. Naturally, the iPhone SE’s most easily recognizable design feature is its small size.
The Apple iPhone SE has one of the smallest screens that turned of in the past few years. It is a 4-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD panel that will deliver good quality images and ensure an overall nice visual experience. The quality of the display is exactly the same as that offered by other iPhone models. It has a 640 x 1136 pixels resolution which, combined with its size, translates into a 326 ppi pixel density. One thing that is missing from the iPhone SE is the 3D Touch feature. It is the only handset released in the past few years that doesn’t offer it.
In terms of power, the Apple iPhone SE has nothing to be ashamed for. The handset is powered by Apple’s A9 dual-core chipset and it features a PowerVR GT7600 GPU. The smartphone includes 2 GB of RAM and customers can choose between 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB of native storage. The handset doesn’t support any additional storage, so users should choose carefully because what they see is what they get with this handset. Even though the Apple iPhone SE launched with iOS 9.3.2 on board, it is upgradable to iOS 10.3.2. It’s even possible that it will get the iOS 11 update in the fall. Even with these specs, which are rather outdated now, the iPhone SE is a speedy little handset.
The Apple iPhone SE features a 12MP primary camera with a f/2.2, aperture, dual LED flash and a 1.22 µm pixel size. It can capture good quality and is able to record 4K video. Unfortunately, the selfie camera of the iPhone SE is not that impressive. Actually, it’s not impressive at all, since it is a 1.2MP one. The selfies won’t be that great, however, it is suitable for decent FaceTime calling. The iPhone SE makes up for the poor selfie camera with its battery. The 1624 mAh battery is able to ensure up to 14 hours of talk time, or 13 hours of web browsing and video playback.
The handset is now available for prices starting at $309.99. Naturally, if you want the higher amount of storage, you will need to pay more. The price of the 64 GB storage version can go up to $419.99. These are the prices for the unlocked version of the handset. naturally, you can get better prices from different carriers.

Apple iPhone 6s
The iPhone 6s is an older smartphone, released in 2015. Even so, it still is a great handset with a lot to offer for a more reasonable price now. The iPhone 6s is larger than the Apple iPhone SE. However, it still is smaller than the majority of flagship smartphones that were recently released. it can still be handled single-handed without any difficulties. of course, it’s not as easy to fit in your pocket as the Apple iPhone SE, but it has a reasonable size. In terms of design, it is pretty similar to the iPhone SE. The front of the handset is basically the same, with different antenna lines on the back. Apart from this, there is no major difference in design or build quality between these handsets.
The screen of the iPhone 6s is larger than the one of the iPhone SE, without being a big screen by today’s standards. It has a 4.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD, with the same pixel density as the Apple iPhone SE’s display has to offer. In order to get the same pixel density, naturally, has a slightly higher, 750 x 1334 pixels resolution. What makes this screen a better one than the one of the SE is its 3D Touch feature, which allows users to complete different tasks in apps by pressing the screen longer or harder. This feature is not present in the iPhone SE. Other than this, the display of the iPhone 6s is exactly the same quality as the one of the iPhone SE.
The handsets are very similar in terms of power too. The iPhone 6s has the same Apple A9 processor and PowerVR GT7600 GPU as the SE. It even offers the same amount of memory, 2 GB, and comes in the same storage variants, with 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage. Also, the handset doesn’t have a card slot, so users won’t be able to add any storage to the smartphone. The software is also a common feature of these smartphones. The iPhone 6s ran on iOS 9.3.2 when it launched and now it is upgradable to iOS 10.3.2. Given the fact that they have exactly the same processor, memory, and software, it’s safe to say that the user experience will also be the same in the case of these two iPhones.
The primary camera of the iPhone 6s is exactly the same as the one on the iPhone SE. It has a 12MP sensor with a f/2.2 aperture, 1/3″ sensor size, and 1.22 µm pixel size. This means that the quality of the pictures taken with this camera will be the same too. Also, the iPhone 6s offers simultaneous 4K video and 8MP image recording, just like the Apple iPhone SE. While the primary camera of these two handsets is the same, there is a major difference between them when it comes to the front-facing snapper. The iPhone 6s sports a 5MP selfie camera, much more suitable for video calls and for taking selfies. The battery of the iPhone 6s is also slightly bigger, it is a 1,715 mAh one, but it offers the same battery life as the smaller power pack of the Apple iPhone SE.
The starting price of the unlocked iPhone 6s is $509.99. For this sum, customers will get 16 GB of internal storage. The price goes as high as $620 for the 64 GB version and $699.99 for the 128 GB variant.

Which one is better?
To be honest, this is a hard question to answer. Both handsets offer the same processor and memory, so in terms of power, they are equally good. However, the iPhone 6s offers a larger screen with 3D Touch and a better selfie camera. For those who prefer a larger display, the iPhone 6s is obviously the better option. Of course, the price difference can also weigh in on the decision. The iPhone 6s is considerably more expensive than the Apple iPhone SE. Those who don’t care much about the size of the screen or the quality of the selfie camera should probably go for the iPhone SE. It is also smaller, and easier to fit in any pocket. Even though they are not the latest models, both the Apple iPhone SE and the iPhone 6s are still good handsets with a lot of power under the hood, so either one of them is a good choice.
