It’s never too early to start preparing for the launch of a new handset. Smartphone cases makers know this, so they usually prepare their stock of cases for upcoming devices. Thankfully, once in a while, we get a glimpse at these cases and thanks to them we get to know some information regarding the handsets. Probably one of the most awaited smartphones of this year is the Apple iPhone 8. No wonder smartphone cases manufacturers are already on top of things and have their stock ready. One of these cases even showed up on Alibaba. Even though the case doesn’t tell us anything about the specs of the upcoming Apple flagship, it does reveal some information on its design.
First of all, the case confirms the size of the handset. We already suspected that the iPhone 8 will have a larger screen than the current Apple flagships have. Thankfully, this time around it will probably be an all-screen handset, so the body of the 5.8-inch iPhone 8 will actually be smaller than the one of the iPhone 7 Plus, which had a slightly smaller, 5.5-inch screen. This way users will get a smartphone that is small enough to easily handle it one-handed, without needing to compromise on the screen size. Everyone will be happy, in other words.
The width and the height of the case also suggest that the iPhone 8 will have the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio the Samsung Galaxy S8 does. If it will also have the same curved display, we might finally see an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy S flagship that look quite a lot alike. However, there will be one major difference between them design-wise: Apple is reportedly going to embed the TouchID sensor under the screen, so nothing will disturb the perfection of its glossy back cover apart from the dual camera setup in the upper corner.
The iPhone 8 case reveals one more thing: the upcoming Appl handset will be thicker than the iPhone 7 is. Naturally, it won’t be a great difference between the thickness of the handsets, but it is a visible one if we are to compare the actual iPhone 7 with the iPhone 8 case. The iPhone 7 doesn’t even come close to filling the case, in either direction. Naturally, the iPhone 8 case also confirms the position of the dual rear camera setup of the handset. This year’s flagship will seemingly sport two vertically aligned lenses, instead of last year’s horizontally placed snappers of the iPhone 7 Plus.
If the iPhone 8 case sold on Alibaba is the real deal, the other buttons of the iPhone 8 will be placed almost where the ones of the iPhone 7 were, with minor differences. At least those remain where we left them last year. Who would have thought that one plastic smartphone case can reveal so much on a handset? Practically, it told us everything we need to know regarding the design of the smartphone. The only thing it doesn’t reveal is the material the iPhone 8 will be made from. Our guess is a great mixture of metal and glass. The iPhone 8 will reportedly launch in September. There still are a few months to go until then, but it’s safe to assume that more detailed images of the handset will surface ahead of the big unveiling.
