The LG G6 is still rather fresh but everyone is already guessing what the LG G7 will be like. Even though the next LG flagship will only be out next year, there are some details we know about the handset already. Some of this information was already confirmed by different sources, others are still in the rumor section. However, they can create a pretty clear image of what the LG G7 will be like. Thankfully, it seems that the next LG flagship will be at least as impressive as the LG G6 is. Naturally, it will come with improvements over the current version. The LG G7 will have to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S9, the OnePlus 6 and the iPhone 9, so it really needs to be a great smartphone.
In terms of design, there probably won’t be any major changes. LG is thought to keep the rather tall design instead of a more compact one. LG will most likely also maintain the metallic body and the glass front combination for its next flagship device. The handset will probably be a waterproof one, with at least an IP68 rating. Also, the fingerprint sensor will most likely be placed on the back cover of the smartphone, just under the camera setup, which could be a double one. Naturally, the LG G7 will be available in several color options, including shades os white, black, and silver.
Even though the current LG flagship has a 5.7-inch display, there is a chance that the LG G7 will actually feature a smaller screen. However, there will also be an LG G7 Plus, which is rumored to come with a larger display, probably closer to the 6-inch size. Also, rumor has it that LG may finally budge and deliver a smartphone with a curved screen. We have to face it, even if curved screens don’t offer the functionality of Samsung’s Edge devices, still look a lot better than flat screens do. Of course, curved screens also have their downsides, but they are neglectable compared to the strong aesthetics impact they offer.
The LG G7, as we already mentioned, will need to compete with other flagships, such as the Samsung Galaxy S9, the iPhone 9, and the OnePlus 6. Except for the iPghone 9, all of these handsets usually come with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. This year, the LG G6 only came with a Snapdragon 821 chipset instead of the most recent Snapdragon 835 flagship chipset. Depending on when Qualcomm will release its next flagship processor, the LG G7 will come with the Snapdragon 835 chipset or its successor. What is sure is that it will offer the best deal possible. Also, we will most likely see a boost in memory. The LG G7 will definitely come with at least 6GB of RAM, possibly even 8GB of memory. As for the native storage, it’s highly likely it will start from 32GB once again. However, LG will probably keep the microSD card slot. Storage should not be an issue with the LG G7 either.
In terms of cameras, we might see some major changes. The majority of smartphone manufacturers opt for dual camera systems nowadays, at least for the rear cameras. Some of them even offer dual camera systems both on the back and the front of the device. The LG G7 already features a dual rear camera system. There is a chance that the LG G7 will actually come with four cameras. Even though the current model’s 13MP+13MP setup is already quite an impressive one, there is a high chance that the cameras of the LG G& will be even better. Also, instead of the 5MP front-facing camera, we might get at least one, possibly even two 8MP sensors. Some sources even suggest a 12MP secondary camera and a 22MP rear camera setup.
When it comes to software, there we can certainly say that the LG G7 will run on Android 8.0 O. The operating system’s new version should arrive this summer, in the fall at the latest. The LG G7 will definitely run on it out of the box. It has some really interesting new features, so this definitely will be a selling point for the G7. Another great news is that the removable battery could come back. It will most likely be a 3,500mAh one, so the size will not be its best feature, but the fact that it will be a removable one will definitely make many people happy. Unfortunately, a removable battery usually means a thicker body. Even so, it is a lot more efficient and it is safer, so the return to the removable battery would be a great idea.
Other features of the LG G7 will include wireless charging support, WiFi, Bluetooth, and possibly even VR support. For the latter, LG should finally go for an OLED display instead of an IPS one. Given the rise of interest in AR and VR content, the shift to the new display should be an easy choice for the company. After all, who wouldn’t want to deliver the best users experience to its customers? The more a handset has to offer, the best chances for it to become extremely popular. VR content is gaining ground every day, so VR support will probably be a must-have in the future.
LG unveiled its LG G6 flagship in February, this year. It’s safe to assume that the company will announce the LG G7 sometime in the same period. In case the G7 will make its first appearance in February 2018, it’s safe to assume that it will hit the shelves sometime in April 2018. It’s even possible that it will reach select countries in late March. As for the pricing, the LG G7 will most likely have a $750 starting price in the US. It will cost somewhere around €669 in European countries and £575 in the UK. The larger storage version of the handset will most likely cost approximately $100 more.
