The HTC U will launch before the end of this month. Even though there still are two weeks to go until May, we now know pretty much everything there is to know about the upcoming HTC flagship smartphone. A number of images depicting the device have recently surfaced. We also know what the main features of the smartphone will be. Until now, it looks like the HTC U will be an interesting mix between certain Samsung features and the iPhone 7’s missing audio jack. Of course, the iPhone 7 is not the only one to lack this features, but it definitely was the first one to give it up.
The design of the HTC U definitely will remind many people of the Samsung smartphones of last year. Thankfully, this year Samsung decided to revive its flagships with a totally new design. The HTC U has a physical button on the lower end of its front cover and some nicely rounded corners. The back cover also seems to be slightly rounded. Its glossy finish even makes us thinks of the glass back cover of the majority of Samsung’s flagship smartphones. The similitude between these devices is not necessarily a bad thing. Unless you expected HTC to deliver something innovative. On the other side, other HTC devices in the past looked a lot like iPhone models, so at least they have made a change.
Otherwise, the HTC U seems to be a more than decent device. It would even enter the “great” category if its IP rating was a little higher. According to the latest reports, the HTC U is only IP57 rated. This is lower than the standard IP68 rating the majority of flagships today have to offer. Even so, it should survive a splash. Just don’t go swimming with it. The HTC U has some really nice features too. It sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, up to 6GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB of internal storage.
It will be the first smartphone to feature a better front-facing camera than its rear camera. Rumor has it the HTC U will sport a 12MP back snapper and a 16MP sensor for its selfie camera. We must admit, that is something new. Besides these, the handset will offer a 3,00mAh battery, a nice 5.5-inch display, a fingerprint sensor, and Edge Sense. It will run on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, which makes it appealing for Android fans.
