The next version of Google’s smartwatch software was in the process of being rolled out in a limited release recently, but there were still many people that hadn’t received the software on their devices yet. Unfortunately for them, they’re going to have to keep waiting, because Google has delayed its release once again. The news has been reported by 9to5Google, who claims that the company decided to delay the Android Wear 2.0 software at the last minute due to a bug spotted in final testing.
As of right now, the software is available on LG Style and Sport watches, which served as the launch devices for the software last month. The company is in the process of rolling out the update to Fossil Q Founder, Casio Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10 and Tag Heuer. “For other devices, the update is currently being delayed due to a bug found in final testing,” said Google. “We will push the update to the remaining devices as soon as the issue is resolved.”
Delays are not uncommon when it comes to the release of new software, and it isn’t even the first time that this software has been delayed by Google. Android Wear 2.0 was initially supposed to launch during the holiday season of last year, but several delays resulted in a launch that was pushed back to February. It isn’t expected that this current delay will be an extensive one, so those without the update shouldn’t have to wait too much longer before it finally arrives.
However, delays are never a good thing in a competitive market, with the setbacks being a blemish that looks bad when compared to their biggest competitor in Apple with the Apple Watch. Apple CEO Tim Cook said at the beginning of this year that last year’s fourth quarter was the best quarter ever for the Apple Watch, with momentum for the device moving in a positive direction. Apple has been beating Google handily in the smartwatch market lately, with Apple’s market share being twice as large as Google’s through the first three quarters of 2016.
