Today Apple has released the latest version of iOS, bringing the operating system to version 10.3 and bringing some interesting new features and tweaks along the way. This new version of the operating system has been in testing since the end of January, with numerous betas being released to prepare it for its official launch.
The update brings several new things to the table, though the biggest one for most will be the new “Find My AirPods” feature. This has been added to the pre-existing “Find My iPhone” function, allowing AirPod owners to track down one or both of the misplaced devices. Considering that misplacing the AirPods has been a common occurrence since they’re completely wireless, this should be a feature that will be a lifesaver for many users.
As for how this feature works, it can play a sound from the AirPods themselves if you know you lost them nearby and even saves the last known location where the AirPods were connected to an iOS device. However, it can’t locate the charging case and the iPhone needs to be nearby in order to locate them.
Next on the list of notable features with the new OS is the Apple File System (APFS), which is optimized for flash/SSD storage and brings improved support for encryption. Other improvements include better backup support, as well as better space efficiency that should go a long way in making whatever device you’re running the OS on perform better.
Those who frequently use the App Store and utilize its review and rating system regularly will also be glad to know that it has received a significant update. 10.3 brings the new feature to allow developers to respond to customer reviews for the first time ever, as well users being able to label reviews as “Helpful” or “Unhelpful” to promote useful reviews and demote the useless ones. Fans will also be happy to know that Apple will be limiting the amount of times that a developer can ask for a review through their app, with the user being able to shut off the review request prompts entirely.
There are plenty of other tweaks that are a result of this new update, which includes the likes of a reworked open/close animation for apps, more specific iCloud storage usage statistics and more. You can check out the complete patch notes for the 10.3 update by clicking right here.
