Final Fantasy Origin is kind of a strange duck, according to Stranger of Paradise. Even though we weren’t exactly fans of it in our review, it stood out and connected with some players. The verdict on whether there is sufficient demand for a sequel is still out, but renowned producer Tetsuya Nomura has stated that he would be willing to produce one if fans can generate some interest.
According to NoisyPixel’s translation of Nomura’s remarks from a recent broadcast promoting the game’s upcoming DLC release, “when Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin first came out, there was a lot of negative bashing, especially online.” He acknowledged that some of his followers had grown to be “very fond of Jack and his friends” over time. In fact, some people would adore a sequel.
Although he says that “if you do want that to happen, then it would certainly help if one person watching this spread the news to 10 other people,” it doesn’t seem like he (or Square Enix) is willing to push for it. There might be a time when we can re-connect if the game’s popularity grows after the DLC is finished, demonstrating that everyone really enjoys it.
The statement from Nomura is that he would “love to work with Kumabe-san from Koei Tecmo again.” If you didn’t already know, Stranger of Paradise and the excellent Persona 5 Strikers were both directed by Nobumichi Kumabe.
Are you willing to perform some unpaid marketing work for Square Enix in exchange for a sequel to Stranger of Paradise?
