Team Ninja’s Nioh launched earlier this year and had plenty of challenging combat for players to get sucked into, but there will be much more coming to the game very soon. Publisher Koei Tecmo has announced the release date of the Dragon of the North DLC for the game, which adds several things to the game.
So far only the Japanese release date of May 2nd has been announced by the publisher, though it’s likely that the release in other regions will be right around that time. The publisher had previously said that this content would release for the game in late April, so it looks like development hit a minor bump in the road at some point. This is paid DLC that will cost about $12, and includes things like a new scenario, character and weapon type.
Despite the aforementioned content coming with a price tag, the developer will also be releasing free DLC around the same time. This DLC will add in the long-awaited PvP mode to the game, which fans have been anticipating since launch. This will essentially allow you to take on other players around the world in epic duels, though the specifics on how this will work have not yet been detailed. It would be great if there were a variety of modes that allowed for players of different levels to battle each other, as well as one that made the battle a level playing field for each fighter with comparable armor and weapons.
For those of you who have never played Nioh, it’s an action RPG that draws heavy inspiration from developer FromSoftware’s Souls series. Players control samurai William as he battles challenging monsters through a series of increasingly-challenging levels, while leveling up and upgrading weapons and armor to deal with the tougher enemies. Unlike FromSoftware’s Souls series, it has more of an emphasis on a traditionally-told narrative that is easier to follow. The game is available exclusively for PlayStation 4, and garnered critical acclaim when it launched due to its fantastic gameplay.
More information regarding the specific release dates for the game’s upcoming DLC will be coming soon, so be sure to stay tuned.
