Daisuke “Pixel” Amaya announced the release date of his new retro-action game called Kero Blaster on the PlayStation Blog today. According to the developer, “Kero Blaster is a simple action game featuring a bipedal frog that came as the result of much trial and error, considering things like the restrictions of an iPhone touch panel and what I should do to arrive at a completed product. It took some time, but I am really proud of how it turned out.”
He goes on to say that “Moving from Cave Story to Kero Blaster has been an interesting transition in my life. In the beginning, I was making various smaller games. After Nicalis helped me sell many copies of Cave Story, I decided to quit my job making printer software and become a full-time game developer. Kero Blaster is the first game I’ve created since then.”
Kero Blaster is a linear side-scrolling action platformer. Compared to the detailed exploration of Cave Story, here the player simply proceeds right, encounters enemies, defeats the boss and moves on in a series of seven different stage types. Halfway through each stage you will find a store where you are able to power yourself up in case the enemies are getting too strong. The game is designed in a way that allows players with less experience in action games to be able and take on the challenge at their own pace.
Amaya also added that after Kero Blaster’s initial release on iOS and Windows, a new “Zangyou Mode” was added to the game. This mode was made for action-game veterans who can beat the game quickly, but are looking for more. It can be unlocked by beating the game once and it will also be available in the PS4 version.
Kero Blaster is already out on iOS and Windows, and it will be available for PS4 on April 11th. If you want to read more about Amaya’s announcement you can do so by clicking here.
