Kojima officially announced his breakup with Konami on twitter after a yearlong falling out. Hideo Kojima is one of the most well known game designers in the industry. Most known for the Silent Hill and the Metal Gear series under the Konami name. The company and Kojima had a falling out recently and Konami is wasting no time hiring for their new Metal Gear game.
It will be strange having a new Metal Gear without Kojima. It seems inappropriate to start hiring for a new game only two days after the official announcement. It gives the impression of throwing a party a few days after a funeral. Considering the shaky history between the two, this recruitment search might of been planned. Konami had prevented Kojima from attending The Game Awards earlier this December. So it was obvious they were trying to cut ties long ago.
The hiring description says very little. Konami is looking for someone that has “Experience in high-end game development, planning, etc,” “boundless imagination and the capacity for exciting new ideas,” and “a strong passion toward game creation.” It sounds like they’re looking for Kojima’s replacement. I’m sure not many could replace a brilliant game designer.
It will be exciting to see how Metal Gear progresses as a series. Gamers can only guess how the following games will be from here on out. It’s unclear what the new game will be about. Not many details are given. It will be interesting to see what direction the series takes without Kojima. It is uncertain if the new game will follow Big Boss, or Solid Snake. There might be a possibility of a new protagonist, but this is purely speculation. It’s uncertain what the future holds for Konami and Kojima. It will be interesting to see what new games they’ll develop on their own.
