Playstation 4 users will definitely have things to look forward to in 2016, with several highly anticipated exclusives coming out for the console, among which will be the continuation to the popular PS series, Ratchet and Clank. 2016’s version (coming out on the 12th of April) won’t carry a complicated name, staying with the basic name the series started with, similarly to how the Tomb Raider reboot came out in 2013. What Ratchet and Clank does differently however is the fact that the game is scheduled for release in parallel to the animated film, hitting theaters in April and starring A-lister actors such as Paul Giamatti and John Goodman doing the voice-acting.
Now, whenever we think about games made based on movies and launched simultaneously, our first instinct is to stay far away. Understandably so, considering most movie tie-in games are generally rushed disasters riddled with bugs and with very little to offer. Ratchet and Clank is different in this regard, since the game is based on a movie that is based on the game, if that makes sense. It’s also being developed by Insomniac, a developer that has been making Ratchet and Clank games for over a decade and is really good at it. Gamesradar took to speak with Insomniac’s marketing lead, James Stevenson, who emphasized that the game has already seen a great level o polish and quality assurance. And the first signs are promising, as gameplay footage looks really, really good.
Since the development for Ratchet and Clank’s development is mostly wrapped up and there are still 5 months to go until the movie and the game are launched, we’re confident this statement is true. “We’ve definitely had good polish phases before and times where we’ve scheduled a lot of polish time” said Stevenson. While the game isn’t trying to revolutionize what it is (after all, why change a good thing?), Stevenson explained that a lot of small tweaks to gameplay and a huge attention to detail are the elements that will make this iteration of the adventure game series great. We’ll obviously be the judges of that, but things look promising for April. Until then, we’re stuck with the trailers. And seeing we’ve included a trailer for the game, it’s only fitting we also take a look at the movie’s promotional material, included below.
